An intensive outpatient program provides more structured addiction treatment than routine outpatient appointments while allowing you to return home or to your own living arrangements between sessions. Treatment can include individual and group counseling, recovery skills and review of changing needs; your assessment determines the recommended services.
IOP may be considered when you need more support than less frequent appointments provide, or when moving from another level of care. It is not automatically the next step for everyone. The assessment team considers substance use, mental and physical health, treatment history and whether you have enough support outside scheduled visits.
